Nursery through 8th Grade
The French Program at Visitation Academy is a course of study designed to introduce to students the structure of the French language and vocabulary, as well as French culture.
The study of French as a second language contributes to the holistic development of students and to the strengthening of learning skills such as critical thinking and intercultural awareness. Students are exposed to various aspects of French culture, including music, literature, cuisine, and art.
They develop a respect for, and understanding of, diverse linguistic and cultural heritages. They grow to understand the nature of language, enabling them to communicate successfully in various global contexts.
The Foreign Language department stresses not only the French language, but also the thought processes that go along with learning another language — processes which enhance listening skills, memory, and mental flexibility. Various resources, including written text and multimedia, are used in the French classroom.
All Visitation Academy students attend French class, and all Middle School students attend twice a week.
