Grade 5:
Geographic, social, and cultural conditions related to the United
States, Canada, Mexico, and Central and Latin America; analyzation
of newspaper articles, diaries, political cartoons, photographs and
graphs; essay writing; preparation for the New York State Social
Studies Assessment Exam.
Grade 6
Geographic, economic, social and cultural understandings related to
Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia; the role of women in
history is emphasized; investigation of Ancient civilizations, the
Middle Ages, and Early Civilizations; all students are required to
do a research project either on paper, in an exhibit, or
performance.
Grade 7
The human experience in the United States from pre-Columbian times
to the Reconstruction; political, economic, and social trends in the
U.S. and the role of women; connections with literature are made
with English Language Arts.
Grade 8
The human experience in the United States from 1876 to the present;
role of women in U.S. history; exploration of history through
various sources such as diaries, newspaper articles, documents from
various time periods, and Internet research; preparation for the New
York State Social
