experience in the science lab, writing lab reports, and discovering
the properties of this planet and beyond.

Grade 5
Weather and its effects on terrain, plant life, and animals; body
systems of both humans and animals; genetic continuity between
generations; concept of matter and the electrons, protons, and
neutrons that constitute an atom; chemical and physical reactions;
properties of density, conductivity, and solubility; ecosystems;
three elements of air, water and earth; familiarity with using
microscopes, beakers, chemicals, and wire.
Grade 6
Further understanding of matter, atoms, elements and energy; testing
for acids and bases; making air thermometers; exploring friction;
investigating motion and energy; living organisms and their
biological make-up; classification of organisms; analysis of the
nervous system; the endocrine system
Grade 7
Investigation of a cell; cultivating bacteria; simple organisms;
adaptation; systems of the human body; ecosystems and conservation;
nutritional wellness; consequences of smoking, drug abuse, and
alcohol consumption; reproduction as outlined by the curriculum of
the Diocese of Brooklyn
Grade 8
Earth science; measurement; modeling and proving scientific theories
through modeling and writing; weather prediction; reading a contour
map and exploring topography; reading a rock record and identifying
rocks/minerals and the time period in which they formed; examining
causes and effects of earthquakes and volcanic eruption; exploration
of the stars and other galaxies; sex education curriculum follows
the guidelines of the Diocese of Brooklyn; preparation for the New
York State Science Assessment Exam
